Implementation of balancing group management on the basis of the inubit BPM-Suite

Berlin, September 8, 2009 – NetConnect Germany is the company of market area cooperation for the merged market area NetConnect Germany (NCG), jointly established by bayernets and E.ON Gastransport. In order to be able to act as balancing group network operator, and with this, to map and support the declaration and allocation processes prescribed by the Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA – German Federal Network Agency), NCG opted for the implementation of the inubit BPM-Suite as central process management solution.

For the fast start of business activities of the newly found company, it was crucial to establish the processes within a few months. Another challenge was the processing of thousands of processes within short terms and their comprehensive monitoring. “To handle the high quantity of processes, it was our intention to automate the process steps as far as possible. But it is often necessary and required that employees realize parts of the processing personally – these manual activities should be controlled via Human Workflows. Processes with need for action can now be pointed out to employees via a central process summary.” This is how Michael Schlusen, project manager at NCG, sums up the project target.

Now, at NCG, the inubit BPM-Suite takes over control of the complete process flow. It integrates the involved applications (for instance GAS-X), allows the exchange of all necessary communication messages between the exit network operators and the balancing group managers, as for example the allocation or declaration of gas quantities with GABi-Gas, via FTP over ISDN, AS2 or email. Furthermore, it provides a central monitoring portal for all processes and acts, thanks to the workflow functionalities, as a collaboration platform for the geographically distributed teams of NCG. Due to the workflow control, users benefit from an immense ease of work, because the necessary information for the handling of processes do not have to be gathered from different sources. To achieve the highest possible degree of automation, validation and plausibility workflows have been implemented, too. Furthermore, escalation mechanisms support timely processing especially in case of critical processes.

By using the inubit BPM-Suite, NCG succeeded in creating flexible business processes. With this, NCG is now able to make process modifications due to the intensely changing processes defined by the BNetzA without a great deal of effort.

In the coming months it is going to be complemented by new specifications of the BNetzA, such as INVOIC messages and APERAK extensions. Moreover, the inubit BPM-Suite will be used in the future to realize the provisioning process for external control energy by balancing group managers and to support “customer self service processes”.
