The transition to flexibility and reorganization of processes are today central topics, faced by companies of the telecommunication and high-tech industry. Decreasing minute rates and steadily increasing competition force companies in the telecommunication market to a permanent optimization of their processes. The omnipresent cost pressure requires, especially in the networked market of the high tech industry, a more and more efficient supply chain management.
BPM is leading to the disired results: not implemented as a "Big Bang" - but stepwise, cost efficient and last but not least standard compliant. Particularly standards help companies on the one hand to be open for future development, and on the other hand to profit from Best Practices. Therefore, the Business Process Framework eTOM is available comprising the specific requirements of the telecommunication industry.
The "Enhanced Telecom Operations Map" (eTOM), published by the TM Forum, is a framework describing telco-specific business processes and intending the standardization of transparent and cross-company processes. The fundament is the following eTOM map:
The eTOM framework focuses on the business processes. The underlying IT is not considered at all. Therefore it is recommended to use a combination of the standards eTOM and ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) to realize a comprehensive standardization step by step.

"We rather invest in the optimization of our processes than spend money on new business applications. We remain more flexible when integrating our various systems instead of adapting our processes to a monolithic block. In case a new a process requires a new system, we can simply add this on.“
